Food-A-Thon

Dear Editor,

Dixon Neighborhood Christian School Food-A-Thon

The Children of Dixon Neighborhood Christian School raised thousands of food items for those in need in our community.

Every June for many years now the Dixon Neighborhood Christian School (DNCS) students, parents and staff spend many hours planning and implementing a Very Successful food drive and this year is no exception.  Thanks to DNCS’ dedication to this annual effort and the generosity of this community, our pantry shelves are full again and we are grateful on behalf of the people we serve.

The timing of the DNCS food drive is perfect for Dixon Family Services because usually by summertime we are low on food.  The holidays are far behind us and so is much of the giving.  What some may not realize is that during the summer months, when kids are on break from school, the grocery budgets get stretched extra thin for low-income families struggling to get by.

Summer also marks a time in Dixon when our population increases with hundreds of migrant workers and their families.  The DNCS Annual Food drive has enabled us to supplement some of the neediest in our area.

Our heart-felt thank you goes to the Dixon Neighborhood Christian School for the food drive and to the members of the community who donate to it.

Sincerely, Cookie Powell Executive Director Dixon Family Services
