JUNE UP-DATES

DIXON FAMILY SERVICES JUNE UP-DATES

From Cookie Powell

MAY FAIR FUN FOR LOW-INCOME FAMILIES

May Fair weekend came and went and those of us who went were not disappointed with the best fair in all the land.   And this year, as has been the case for numerous years, we were able to purchase entry tickets and rides bracelets for several families thanks to a donation from Mr. and Mrs. Ball.  Herb Cross made a lot of parents and children happy with Rotary pancake breakfast.  He dropped off 20 tickets and asked they be distributed to people who would otherwise not be able to go.  One of the families who benefitted from his gift had 6 children.  Mr. and Mrs. Ball, Mr. and Mrs. Cross – thank you for giving us those opportunities to brighten several families’ May Fair weekend.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL FOOD DRIVE

The Neighborhood Christian School did another fantastic job with their annual Spring Food Drive the first weekend of June.  The Dixon Family Services pantry shelves are now stocked and supplementary grocery bags are being distributed to families and individuals in need.  Thank you Students, Parents, Teachers, Administrators and Everyone at The Neighborhood Christian School!  We truly appreciate your efforts!

STRENGTHENING FATHERS

Our newest program for the community is The Strengthening Fathers Program.  Fathers who enroll choose from a menu of activities and services.  Areas of focus include responsible parenting, healthy relationship skills, job readiness and budgeting.  The Program is part of the Solano Fathers Network with multiple incentives, including the possibility of:  Review and/or modification of child support orders, Review/reduction of amounts owed to the state, Review and/or reinstatement of driver’s license, Referrals to Legal, Mental Health and Basic Needs resources.  Dixon fathers interested in learning more should contact Dixon Family Services at 678-0442.

SUMMER OUTREACH ACTIVITIES

In July and August DFS staff members are making appointments with local churches, organizations and any other group that would like to hear about the Programs and Services we offer at Dixon Family Services.  Our goal is to do outreach activities, be put on agendas and make presentations to let people know how we can help people in our community.  We rely heavily on the referral process so the more people who know about our programs, the better.

If you are reading this and you belong to an organization, congregation, business or another group that would be interested in a presentation please contact us.

COMEDY NIGHT SOON

Excitement is in the air as one of Dixon’s favorite summertime events is coming up.  On Saturday, July 22 people who love a good laugh will gather at the Olde Vet’s Hall for Comedy Night 2017.  The night begins with a delicious tri-tip dinner that is completely provided by Recology.  Bud’s will have the no-host bar open from 5-10.  Raffle prizes are coming to us and adding up to be a collection of fabulous winnings.  A sampling includes Park Hopper Disney passes, a bike, passes to local entertainment entities and many wonderful gift certificates for food and services from local merchants.

If you want to donate a prize, please let us know.  We have people volunteering to pick up prizes and take tickets to those who want to purchase them.  What could be easier?  Remember that all proceeds from this event go right back into our community through the services we provide to anyone in Dixon who comes to us in need.

Current generous sponsors include Dixon VFW, Bud’s Pub and Grill, Recology, Travis Credit Union, California Water Service, Dixon Rotary, First Northern Bank, Altec, Cache Creek Casino and Walmart.  Please contact us if you would like to be a sponsor too.

And the main ingredients for a great night are the two scheduled comedians.  Stephen B. and Nick Larson will keep us all laughing out loud throughout the evening.  You can purchase tickets at Dixon Family Services, The Dixon Florist, The Dixon Tribune, The DFS Thrift Store, or give us a call for ticket delivery or will-call service.
