Comedy Night is a Fun Way to Assist

Right around the corner Saturday night, July 27th, Comedy Night will provide mouth-watering food, lots of laughter and prizes galore at Dixon’s “Funnest” Fund Raising Event of the year.  It happens at The Olde Vet’s Hall in Dixon at 231 N First Street.

Tickets are still available at the time of writing this press release but don’t wait to get yours as they are selling fast.  You don’t want to miss this event.   A $40 donation covers a delicious tri-tip dinner, professional comedy and a REALLY good time.

At 5PM the doors open and the fun begins with social hour.  People can look over the large array of raffle prizes and place their tickets with preferred winnings.  Bud’s will have their bar well stocked with cocktails and brews, all can salivate over the decadent desserts to be auctioned after dinner and friends will visit and enjoy each other’s company.

Dinner is provided by Recology, a longtime partner and supporter of Dixon Family Services.  The company and wonderful employee/volunteers provide, cook and serve wonderful food at Comedy Night each year.

The Headliner for Comedy Night this year is Milt Abel who will be causing uncontrollable laughter.  “A Solid Professional”  “…Hilarious…”  “…A standup comedian with over twenty years of professional experience.”  For more about Milt go to DixonFamilyServices.org

Tickets are available to purchase at Dixon Family Services, 155 North Second Street and at The Dixon Tribune, 145 East A Street.  This year you can also pay for tickets with a credit card on the DFS website.  Email or call and let us know where to send or deliver the tickets.

This year the door prize is $200 cash and you do not have to be present to win.  Fill out the contact information on the ticket stub and turn in to DFS before the event.  You have a chance to win even if you cannot attend.  Tickets make a great gift for family, friends and co-workers and your donation is going to a wonderful cause.

Dixon Family Services exists to provide people in the community with a large variety of services.  Established in 1984 the organization has since been a resource for anyone in need of information, referrals, basic needs, case management, mental health and substance abuse services, parenting and other life-skills workshops, support groups, a food pantry and to assist families and individuals who find themselves in situations that are negatively affecting their quality of life.

Thousands of people have managed to make life-altering changes with help from Dixon Family Services.  Fund raising events and donations are what enable DFS to provide individualized action/support plans for each family seeking help.

Generous grants from Kaiser Permanente and Genentech keep our Mental Health Continuum of Care and Basic Needs Safety Net Programs funded and operational.  Partners such as The Church of Saint Martin, The Dixon United Methodist Church, Dixon Neighborhood Christian School, The Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, along with many businesses and individuals in the community, support Dixon Family Services, increasing our capability to serve parents and others who are struggling to provide food, utilities and shelter for their families.  Solano County Health and Social Services also provide funds for some of our family support services.

Representatives of other helping agencies such as the WIC Program, CalWORKs, Covered California, Section 8, Cal Fresh, SafeQuest Solano, Legal Services of Northern California and the Food Bank Fresh Produce Program all provide their services on the premises as well. Dixon Family Services is truly a “One-Stop-Shop” of human services for residents of Dixon under one roof.  All services are provided in both English and Spanish by caring and dedicated staff members.

Sponsors of Comedy Night 2019 include Altec, Dixon Wellness, Walmart, Travis Credit Union, Patty and Mark Richards, Coldwell Banker Kappel Gateway Realty, California Water Service, Dixon Financial Services, SafeQuest Solano, Anna and Jerry Castañon, VFW Post 8151, Martin’s Steel Works, First Northern Bank, Recology and Bud’s Pub & Grill.  Many local businesses and individuals are responsible for a large array of raffle prizes and the complete list will be on the DFS website soon.

The annual fundraiser is planned and provided by the Dixon Family Services Board of Directors.  The current roster includes Sarah Villec, Matt Swanson, Jack Caldwell, Jerry Castañon, Laura Ziegler, Donny Everhart, Patti Sousa and Ranay Singh.  If you are interested in supporting Dixon Family Services as a board member, a fund committee member, or have a raffle prize or dessert to donate, please speak with any of these good people or Cookie Powell.
